Courtesy: http://www.pickettsociety.com/turkey_island/turkey_pix.html Please note caption: "Here atop the highest crest on the old Turkey Island plantation stands a solitary sentinel to an almost forgotten past. The 13-foot obelisk of imported sandstone is seen now only by an occasional hunter hiking through the dense woods surrounding it. Erected in 1771 by a grateful son in memory of his parents, Richard and Jane Randolph, it also bears an inscription commemorating the "Calamitous Flood of 1771." The "grateful son" was Ryland Randolph, who died in 1785. It is called "the Randolph Monument"or "the Flood Monument".

SÆRIMNER
SÆRIMNER
Launched in 1878, the Frigate "Særimner" was converted to Bark 1892. 1366 nrt (B s 411/411/407- D) -
Built by Fredrik Magnus at Hogganvik for Jacob Sømme. 1892 sold to E Berentsen. 1903 sold to Birger Berg. 21 Feb 1907 grounded at Riding Rocks, Great Bahama Bank, while traveling to Gulfport MS from Buenos Aires with lumber. Arrived at Nasssau Bahamas floating on its own load. Condemned.

201 feet long width 37 and depth 23.5 feet. Cost over £200,000. It was the largest sailing vessel built in Norway until then. One of Scandinavia's most beautiful ships, but also a venture on which fortunes were lost, because this is when steamships came into use. The shipbuilding business at Hogganvik never recovered. Work was commenced in autumn 1876 and launch was 20 August 1878.

Thankful Smead Chest with Drawers
Thankful Smead Chest with Drawers
ca. 1695 Massachusetts
Oak and pine
Photographed at Huntington Library in San Marino, California while on loan from the Dietrich American Foundation in Philadelphia.

Known as a Hadley chest, these types of chests were produced in Connecticutt River valley towns in central New England near Hadley Massachusetts.

From the T. S. carved in its front, it is known this chest was made for Thankful Smead, born in Deerfield 1677 and died there with her husband 3 children in the 1704 Deerfield raid. This chest may have been presented to Thankful Smead around 1695 upon her marriage to John Hawks Jr.
