  Was accused by Union soldiers of having killed one of their soldiers on Pea Ridge. Was dragged from his home on Riley Creek, put on a rock where he faced a 17-gun firing squad; but, before he was executed, his wife and young sons convinced the Yankees that he was innocent - so his life was spared.
