  From History of Frederick County, Maryland, Vol I, by Thomas John Chew Williams and Folger McKinsey, pg. 831: "John W. England, son of Nathan England, was born near Liberty, Frederick County, Md. He grew up a farm boy. He was educated at an academy in Liberty, and when a young man became a travelling salesman through the South for a New York dry goods house. He held this position until the war broke out, when conditions forced him to abandon that work. He later followed farming in Mount Pleasant District, and died in 1873, aged about 50 years. Mr. England was married twice, his first wife was a Miss Mitchell of Washington D.C. who died at the birth of her first child. He was married secondly to Miss Ellen Hendry.
