- Elisha Risdon, a soldier of the War of 1812, was one of the early settlers to Hopkinton, New York and for many years kept a diary which forms a graphic picture of the life and customs of the that time. Elisha came to Hopkinton town in 1804 and for more than forty years was a conspicuous figure in its affairs.
His writings can be found in "Early History of the Town of Hopkinton, New York, History of East Village and Vicinity;Diaries of Elisha Risdon: Soldiers of the Civil War; Genealogical Record of sixty pioneer families with maps and illustrations".
Carlton E. Sanford, Potsdam, New York. The Bartlett Press, Boston, Mass. 1903
