Notes |
- They had two children baptized at Spoeck and asked permission to leave in 1736. They had a third child in February 1737 and must have left soon after because they arrived in Philadelphia on board the ship “William” 31 October, 1737. They settled in Lancaster County, PA, and had seven more children.
A son, Johann Michael, b. 1741, eventually moved to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and by then he was simply Michael Spiggle. He settled on a farm on the North Fork of the Shenandoah and was at one time Sheriff of the county and served in the county militia during the Revolution, rising to the rank of captain. He died in Shenandoah County, VA, in 1816. He was married twice and had eleven children.
- Johann Michael Spiegel took up the trade of tailor as a young single man and moved from Haiterbach in the Duchy of Württemberg to Spoeck in the Duchy of Baden-Durlach. He married there and had several children, but in 1736 requested permission to leave for the "New World" with his wife and children. He paid fees and taxes and was allowed to leave in the spring of 1737. They arrived in Philadelphia, 31 October 1737, and soon settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where they had five children baptized at the Brickerville Lutheran Church between 1739 and 1747. No record of the death of Johann Michael Spiegel has been found to date.
