  • Notes
    • The name of the father of Didier Remy is not presently known. The Remy family has historically been found in the area of Picardy, France (in the region of Lorraine), where a large number of them appeared in the ranks of the nobility. It seems likely that Didier Remy was a descendant of Carlier de Remy, or Henri de St Remy (who's family was divided into two branches, St Remy de Vlois and St Remy de Luze, and spread out throughout the area of Didier Remy's residence). According to "The Chronology of the French family of Remy in France", many of the branches of Henri's family received armorial marriages and grants of nobility. Didier Remy received his ennoblement in 1554.

    • The ancient French family of Remi (Remy) was originally a tribe of Gaul (Northern France and Belgium). The family was represented in French history by Bishop Saint Remi of Rheims (437-533), Abbot Remi of Strasbourg who died in 768, Archbishop Remi of Rouen who died in 771, the King of the Lombards (750-800), and many other famous people.

Didier Remy of this French family was ennobled on 13 Sep 1554 and died in 1556. His son George Remy was also ennobled. George's son Jacques Remy was born in Ivoy in the Department of Ardennes about 1545-7. Jacques Remy became a Huguenot and was killed in Ivoy. His son Pierre Remy who was born about 1600 was also a Huguenot and was killed. Pierre's son Jacques Remy was born about 1630 in Picardy, Lorraine.

The name of the father of Didier Remy is not presently known. The Remy family has historically been found in the area of Picardy, France (in the region of Lorraine), where a large number of them appeared in the ranks of the nobility. It seems likely that Didier Remy was a descendant of Carlier de Remy, or Henri de St Remy (who's family was divided into two branches -St Remy de VAlois and St Remy de Luze- and spread out throughout the area of Didier Remy's residence). According to "The Chronology of the French family of Remy in France", many of the branches of Henri's family received armorial marriages and grants of nobility. Didier Remy received his ennoblement in 1554.

The French family of Remy is said to have been an ancient tribe of Gaul (Northern France and Belgium). French records extending as far back as 437 AD begin chronicaling the contributions of the Remy [Ramey] family to northern France. Remarkably, Remy's have been Kings (Didier, King of the Lombards) and Queens (Desiree Remy, sister of Didier and wife of King Charlemagne), Orators and Priests (St. Remy, son of Count Emile de Laon Remy), Treasurers to a King (Pierre Ramey of Lorraine to Charles IV), Noblemen, Landowners, Vintners, and Scholars.114 A reoccuring theme in the history of the Remy family is a close association with the church (prior to some members becoming Huguenots).

In 12th-century Europe, knights began painting their shields to identify themselves while wearing full armour. These early coats of arms, while generally very simple, clearly showed the person's identity. The idea caught on and, as coats of arms grew in popularity, more symbols were needed and coats of arms became more complex. Gradually, monarchs took control of the official granting and use of coats of arms, which allowed them to honour people and groups. There are a number of coats of arms borne by the Remy family.

Didier Remy was born into this French family about 1480-1490. He was ennobled September 13, 1554 and died in 1556.

nevertheless, a few of his writings are preserved in the church records. He was considered the greatest orator of his time. From "A History of the Church, Vol. II"

The final stage in [the Franks] history, in which they, too, begin to occupy the territory of the empire as rulers really independent, begins with the succession of Clovis as king of the Franks centred round Tournai. This was in 481. Five years later he had overcome Syagrius and was master of the north of Gaul as far as the Loire. He then turned on the Alamans whom he drove back across the Rhine, and upon the other kings of his own nation whom he also defeated and slew. In 493 he married, and his wife, a Burgundian, was a Catholic. Three years later he himself became a Catholic and was baptised at Rheims by the bishop, St. Remy. Thousands of his warriors followed his example.
