Notes

The first known record for Thomas Price, Sr. is in 1746 in Lunenburg County, when he received land from his father, Rice Price Sr. While in that county he married his first wife, Sarah Baldin, September 25, 1752 and they were the parents of ten children. While living in Charlotte county Thomas served on the Grand Jury, was appointed surveyor of roads, and aided in the settling of estates for various neighbors. His wife, Sarah, died June 30, 1777 in Charlotte County.

Thomas married his second wife, Mary (surname unknown) in 1778 and moved to Pittsylvania County the next year, purchasing 400 acres of land from John Waller. The house and land are some 200 yards behind a road still remembered as Hickey’s road, off of Rt. 612 on Banister River and 8 miles from the Courthouse. Thomas and Mary had nine children while living at this location. A cemetery is located in the woods on the property with nine known graves—Stephen Price, Rebecca D. Price, Stephen S. Price, Mariah M Hodges, A. N. Price, William P. Price, Sallie C. Price, Mary C. Price and outside the fence, Lucy C. Farthing.

Through land grants and purchases, Thomas owned 1048 acres in Pittsylvania County at the time of his death, April 10, 1792. The appraisal of his estate listen 11 Negros, a safe, loom, sheep shears, cooper’s tools, old books, with the usual farm animals and household goods.

Thomas was a patriot during the American Revolution, furnishing hog, meal and bacon for the State Troops.
