Notes |
- Thomas Cortsen Wegner (born 23 April 1588 in Lund , died 13 December 1654 in Stavanger ) was a Norwegian bishop . In 1611 he became chaplain at Our Lady Church in Copenhagen , from 1617 parish priest in Kalundborg , and from 1618 parish priest at Nicolai Church in Copenhagen. [ needs reference ] He was appointed bishop of Stavanger diocese in 1627. [ needs reference ]
Wegner was known as a very active bishop, and his correspondence was extensive. [ needs reference ] One of those he exchanged was Ole Worm , and at his request Wegner collected and described a total of 29 rune inscriptions from his diocese. These were reproduced in Worm's great work Monumenta Danica . [ needs reference ] As a bishop, Wegner made sure to change the boundaries of the Stavanger diocese that had been in existence for 500 years.
Thomas Cortsønn Wegner was bishop of Stavanger until his death in 1654.
Wegner was married twice, first to Cecilie Jakobsdatter Brender (born in 1600 and died in 1628), then to Anna Christensdatter Trane (born in 1611 dead in 1696). He had a total of 15 children with his two wives, and seven of them became priests or clergy throughout the diocese.
Wegner lived in the diocese (medieval St. Anna's farm) on what is now the Cathedral Square . The house burned down in 1633. Wegner also owned two plots of land where the king was the landowner. One was out on Skagen at Sundtasmauet and the other on Grimsageren (the beach side).
In 1631, the king's widow Christensdatter Trane gave the income from the farm Ims in Høgsfjord during her lifetime. The widow Anna Kristensdatter Trane later lived in Skagen 6 in Stavanger. This property was free, that is, she owned the plot in addition to the house.
