"Benjamin Parker was born in Fauquier Co, Va, Feb 27, 1759. He had two known brothers, George and David......"


Benjamin's application for pension for Revolutionary War service.

"Declaration in order to obtain benefits of the act of Congress passed June 7, 1832, State of Kentucky, County of Harden (Hardin).

On the 19th day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty two. Personally appeared in open court before the Honorable Paul T. Booker common wealth circit Judge. Now Benjamin Parker, age 73, on the 27th of last February, who, being duly sworn according to the law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 27th, 1832. That he entered the service of the United States under named officers and served as herein stated. In the last of August, 1777, he entered as a volunteer in the county of Fauquier and state of Virginia in a body consisting of two captains: companies under the command of Colonelk Churchill and Colonel Brooks.

"About the first of September following, he started from Fauquier County marched to Lees Fredrickstown, through Little York and through to Lancaster. Benjamin Harrison was captain of the company. He remained in Lancaster several days when we had orders to march to Philadelphia.

"We started from Lancaster under some officers and marched on toward Philadelphia. We got to the headquarters the day after the battle was fought at Germantown where we joined the Army under the command of General Washington. Then we marched with the whole Army to White Plains where we remained till the last of November following. When we were discharged. We served three months on the first tour. He states that the first of April, 1781, he was drafted in aforesaid county and state and marched through Fredrickburg to Richmond, then down the James River to Dandridges Mill under the command of Colonel Elias Edmonds and Captain William Jennings. Then we marked back to Richmond from which we were driven by the British and we returned to the Little Woerjoine Orange County where we were joined by Generalk DeMarcus with his army. Then we returned and chased the British back to Richmond again. From Richmond we went down the James River and camped over the river and marched near to Petersburg where near four hundred of our men were taken prisoners by Colonel Tarlton company. Then we returned to Richmond and stayed there until we had served out the three months term. Where we were discharged. He received a written dischare for the first service but he has lost it. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares his name is not on the pention roll of the agency of any state or territory whatever.

"Mr. Jack Vanmeter residing in the county of Hardin and John Smoot of the same county, both of the state of Kentucky, do hearby certify that we are acquainted with Benjamin Parker who has subscribed and sworn of the above declaration and that we blieve him to be 73 years of age that he is reputed and believes in the neighborhood where he resides, to have been a soldier of the Revolution and that we concern in that opinion. Sworn and subscribed the day and year aforesaid.

"And the said court do hereby declare this opinion after the investigation of the matter that the above named applicant was a Revolutionary soldier in Virginia Militia and served as he states and the court further certifies that it appears to them that Jack Vanmeter and John Smoot who have signed the preceding certificates are resident citizens of the county of Harden (Hardin) and are creditable persons and that their statements are entitled to credit.

Sarah Asberry m. Benjamin Parker

Asberry Parker moved to Missouri. He moved to Illinois first, went back to Kentucky, went back to Illinois and finally settled in Missouri. In the 1860 Census Jackson County, Missouri on page 443:

Joseph Henry Parker had married Mary Rhoads. Richard Rhoads is Mary's father. Hulda (Richard's wife) had already died (as the result of childbirth, her eleventh) Asberry and Mary Richardson Parker also had a baby Sarah Jane born 27 Sep 1834, and died 18 July 1838 Kentucky. Asberry is the only one of the children that Benjamin does not show up on his marriage as surity. However, Asberry shows up in the 1850 Census in Macoupin County Illinois, along with Joseph and Mary Lewis (Mary would be Asberry's sister) and John and Lydia Parker (John would be Asberry's brother and David and Susannah Parker (David would be Asberry's brother) George A Parker, the 8 year old son of Asberry in the Census above is George Asberry Parker. Mary Bird ended up in Illinois, but in Fulton County in 1850. (She would be the daughter of David Parker, Uncle to Asberry, the one that died of arsenic poison in June 1824.) William Alexander Parker Family
Toshes/Toler’s Ferry, Virginia.

William Alexander Parker’s ancestors landed at the Cliffs, St. Mary’s County, Maryland, in 1635. Some of the Parkers migrated to the Baltimore and Washington, DC areas. William Alexander Parker, youngest of his family, moved to Fauquier County, Virginia. He then left Fauquier County and moved to Pittsylvania County in 1768 – to get away from the Indians and to raise tobacco. He and his wife built a home at Toshes, near Toler’s Ferry. It is believed that his wife’s name was Henrietta. Some of their children were David, Benjamin and George. It is told that William Alexander had two other sons who were killed at Braddock’s Defeat in 1755. David and Benjamin moved to Hardin County, Kentucky.
David was there in 1820, when David’s wife accidentally used arsenic instead of soda when preparing their bread; poisoning herself, David and two of their children. Benjamin, David’s considerably older brother, became the guardian of his brother’s surviving children. Some of the Kentucky Parkers moved to Illinois, while others, during the early and mid-1800’s ventured to Texas (Fort Parker) where one of the Parker children, Cynthia Ann, nine years of age, was kidnapped during a Comanche raid in 1836. Cynthia Ann married a Comanche chief. One of her children was Quanah Parker, a well known Comanche chief, who made numerous trips to Washington, DC to negotiate on behalf of his people.

George Parker married Frances Oaks and stayed at the home place in Pittsylvania County (Toshes). Frances Oaks is related to the Toler family – also spelled Towler. George was born in 1769 and died April 5, 1859. He and his wife are buried at the Parker/Rorer home place, Toshes.
George and Frances had a large family. David Parker, one of their offspring, was born 1802; m. 1st Mary A. Toler (Toler’s Ferry), 1849; m. 2nd Mary Amanda Goggin, 1855; and they also lived in the same house as David’s parents, George and Frances (Oaks). It became the Parker ancestral home. Mary Goggin’s 2nd cousin was Mark Twain (Samuel L Clemens) (see Our Kin, Ackerly and Parker, Bedford County, Virginia families). Mary Goggin Parker had a brother, the Reverend Thomas C. Goggin, well known preacher in Bedford County during the 1800’s.
Another one of George and Frances’ children was the Reverend Joseph Parker, who served a number of churches, and who was very well known and beloved during his lifetime. His farmhouse was renovated in more recent times, and is currently known as Bernard’s Landing (Smith Mountain Lake) in the Bedford, Virginia area. (Moneta). David and Mary (Goggin) Parker’s children were William (Willie) David, Penhook, Pigg River; George Stephen, Vinton, Va; Mary Emily (Emma) m. Jimmy Rorer (Emma and Jimmy Rorer established their residence at the old Parker home – in order to be with her aging and widowed mother, Mary Goggin Parker) – thus it became known as the Parker/Rorer place; and Charles (Charlie) Ross Parker, who m. Mary A. Tuck (Mary Tuck related to Glenns and Whiteheads of Pittsylvania County). Charlie and Mary lived on the Staunton River, Toshes, Virginia. The family attended Summersett Baptist Church. Alice Parker, wife of Giles Jefferson Morton was the youngest of their nine children. She lived in Pittsylvania County all her life.

William married Henrietta Hyde Donnell in 1751 in , , Virginia, USA. Henrietta (daughter of Samuel Donnell and Lucy P Hyde) was born in 1740 in , Fauquier, Virginia, USA; died on 25 Jul 1823 in Toshes, Pittsylvania, Virginia, USA; was buried in Toshes, Pittsylvania, Virginia, USA. Samuel married Lucy P Hyde. Lucy was born in 1720 in , Cecil, Maryland, USA; died in 1780 in , Cecil, Maryland, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
