      Ira has a copy of his biography on file at the BYU Library in Provo, Utah. Comments: #21. Ira was a ward teacher in the Salt Lake City 1st Ward; 1862 member of expedition sent by Lot Smith to protect the mail route; 1867 called by Brigham Young to superintend the building of the Church Ft. in Covecreek; President of Millard Stake of Zion. Comments: #31. Ira was sent to repair wagons and act as a farrier for the immigrants on the trail west. Set up a blacksmith shop on Horse Shoe Creek near Platte River. Visited by Sioux and Crow Indians. Served as a mail way-station for mail on way to Salt Lake. Returned to Salt Lake, fall 1857. Reported speeches of leaders regarding religious instructions and preparations to resist the U.S. Army. Worked with father-in-law on Salt Lake lot, 1858. Comments: #4l. Ira came to Utah in 1850 with the David Evans company. He was president of the Millard Stake for 26 years. He was captain of a company to guard the U.S. mail from depredations of Indians. He was a pioneer to Arizona and New Mexico. He was called by President Young to build Cove Fort in 1867.
