  Elisha Risdon, a soldier of the War of 1812, was one of the early settlers to Hopkinton, New York and for many years kept a diary which forms a graphic picture of the life and customs of the that time. Elisha came to Hopkinton town in 1804 and for more than forty years was a conspicuous figure in its affairs. His writings can be found in "Early History of the Town of Hopkinton, New York, History of East Village and Vicinity;Diaries of Elisha Risdon: Soldiers of the Civil War; Genealogical Record of sixty pioneer families with maps and illustrations". Carlton E. Sanford, Potsdam, New York. The Bartlett Press, Boston, Mass. 1903 His headstone reads, "Felled the primitive forest where he now lies in A.
