• Photos » Slide Show		SÆRIMNER Launched in 1878, the Frigate "Særimner" was converted to Bark 1892. 1366 nrt (B s 411/411/407- D) - Built by Fredrik Magnus at Hogganvik for Jacob Sømme. 1892 sold to E Berentsen. 1903 sold to Birger Berg. 21 Feb 1907 grounded at Riding Rocks, Great Bahama Bank, while traveling to Gulfport MS from Buenos Aires with lumber. Arrived at Nasssau Bahamas floating on its own load. Condemned. 201 feet long width 37 and depth 23.5 feet. Cost over £200,000. It was the largest sailing vessel built in Norway until then. One of Scandinavia's most beautiful ships, but also a venture on which fortunes were lost, because this is when steamships came into use. The shipbuilding business at Hogganvik never recovered. Work was commenced in autumn 1876 and launch was 20 August 1878.

• Notes

  Johannes Magnus had several sons and the two first born, Frederik and Morten, became the great shipbuilders. Frederik, of all things, started out as a pharmacy apprentice in Flekkefjord, and in the transition phase he also tried clockmaking in Stavanger, but he didn't like any of the two occupations. He came back to Haagenvik, where he and his brother Morten initiated the shipyard.
