Hans Svaning Book
Hans Svaning Book
*** Danish contribution to the Danish-Swedish historian feud of the 16th century. The book was written by Hans Svaning in response to the charges made by the Swedish prelate and historian Johannes Magnus in the work "Historia de omnibus Gothorum" in 1554. Originally, Svaning's name was on the title page, but when the Danish government feared to come to stand in an unfortunate international light - these books were read about - the sheet of title was reprinted and bearing the name of the recently deceased Professor Rosefontanus and bearing the year of publication 1560. Should these maneuvers have served the cause of peace, they were at least in vain: The Nordic Seven Year War was already underway when the book was published.

Johanne Margarethe Smith
Johanne Margarethe Smith
Portrett av Johanne Margarethe Smith, født Leigh (1691 - 1766). Hennes mann, Lauritz Smith, var sønn av billedhugger Anders Smith. Maleriet er trolig malt i 1710. Portrettet er usignert og udatert. Kilde: "Ledaal. Historie og restaurering" (2009) Ledaal ble bygget som lystgård for familien Kielland i årene 1799-1803. Navnet «Ledaal» er en konstruksjon av de siste bokstavene i navnene til byggherre Gabriel Schanche Kielland (1760 – 1821) og hans kone Johanna Margaretha Bull. Siden 1936 har herregården vært i Stavanger museums eie og fra 1950 har Ledaal vært kongebolig.

Portrait of Johanne Margarethe Smith, born Leigh (1691 - 1766). Her husband, Lauritz Smith, was the son of sculptor Anders Smith. The painting is probably painted in 1710. The portrait is unsigned and undated. Source: "Ledaal. History and restoration" (2009) Ledaal was built as a yard for the Kielland family in the years 1799-1803. The name "Ledaal" is a construction of the last letters in the names of the developer Gabriel Schanche Kielland (1760 - 1821) and his wife Johanna Margaretha Bull. Since 1936, the manor house has been in the ownership of the Stavanger Museum and from 1950 Ledaal has been royal.

John Kennon Bolling
John Kennon Bolling
The only son of John and Mary Kennon Bolling, John, Jr., accumulated extensive holdings in what was then a wilderness country and was able to indulge his propensities for horses, hunting, fishing, eating and dancing. He sat on the General Assembly for nearly thirty years, was head of the Chesterfield County militia, and presided over the county courts. His first wife, Elizabeth Lewis, died soon after their marriage in 1720, and in 1728 he took Elizabeth Blair as his second wife. Elizabeth Blair was the niece of Reverend James Blair, founder and first president of The College of William & Mary.
