Notes |
- There are records of Risdons living at Stratford (or Stratfield) and Fairfield, Connecticut until shortly before the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. This is when Elisha Risdon and his sons (John, Onesimus, Daniel and possibly Josiah) moved from Connecticut to settle in the town of Rupert, Vermont, between Dorset and Pawlet, in what became Bennington County.
The search for information about Elisha Risdon of Stratford, Connecticut, and later a settler at Rupert, Vermont, developed into an attempt to solve what may be termed "The Josiah Risdon Issue". The ascertaining by convincing documentary evidence, the name's of Josiah's parents and the name of his birthplace as well as his relationship to John, Onesimus and Daniel Risdon. Clear factual evidence has so far not been discovered.
Information concerning Elisha Risdon is sparse. Aside with the fact that he moved with his sons from Stratford, Connecticut to Rupert, Vermont shortly before the outbreak of the Revolutionary War.
