Notes |
- The name of the father of Didier Remy is not presently known. The Remy family has historically been found in the area of Picardy, France (in the region of Lorraine), where a large number of them appeared in the ranks of the nobility. It seems likely that Didier Remy was a descendant of Carlier de Remy, or Henri de St Remy (who's family was divided into two branches -St Remy de VAlois and St Remy de Luze- and spread out throughout the area of Didier Remy's residence). According to "The Chronology of the French family of Remy in France", many of the branches of Henri's family received armorial marriages and grants of nobility. Didier Remy received his ennoblement in 1554.
- The ancient French family of Remi (Remy) was originally a tribe of Gaul (Northern France and Belgium). The family was represented in French history by Bishop Saint Remi of Rheims (437-533), Abbot Remi of Strasbourg who died in 768, Archbishop Remi of Rouen who died in 771, the King of the Lombards (750-800), and many other famous people.
Didier Remy of this French family was ennobled on 13 Sep 1554 and died in 1556. His son George Remy was also ennobled. George's son Jacques Remy was born in Ivoy in the Department of Ardennes about 1545-7. Jacques Remy became a Huguenot and was killed in Ivoy. His son Pierre Remy who was born about 1600 was also a Huguenot and was killed. Pierre's son Jacques Remy was born about 1630 in Picardy, Lorraine.
