    Some assumptions may be made from this entry.....he had five sons...he bought the shoes and ribbon for his wife or daughter...he bought educational materials for his children...he lived in the part of Hanover that converted to Louisa.

    February 22, 1760: William Bennett appears as a defendant debtor in asuit brought by Archibald Buchanan and John Bowman & Co., Plfs. Richard Bennett became security for the defendant. Judgment for the plaintiffs against William and Richard Bennett for 38 Lbs 12s, to be discharged by the payment of one half the amount plus interest. (Halifax Co.Plea Book 3, p. 22)

    My loving wife Frances Bennett during her life in widowhood all my estate. At her decease all may be sold and the money divided between my children William Bennett, Mary Lawson, Reubin Bennett, Elizabeth Perry, Micajah Bennett, Rachel Bennett, Abner Bennett and Richard Bennett as if her directed Viz. my sons Wm. and Reuben Bennett do discount 30 pounds 10 shillings each from an equal proportion of the money becausethey have already received that sum each in the the land they now live on and all the other named children to receive a just and equall proportion.
    If at any time after my decease my now loving wife should marry my estate may be sold by the discretion of my Executors and the money divided as aforesaid allowing my wife a child's part only. If any time before there be a division of my estate there should be a decease of any of the above named children without being of age or proper heir, my estate may be divided betwixt those that be then living.

    This indenture made this first day of February one thousand seven hundred and seventy six. Between William Bennet Senr of the County of Pittsylvania of the one part and Reubin Bennett a grandson of the said William Bennet and a son of Peter Bennett of the other part. Witnesseth that the said William Bennett for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which he hath for the said Reubin Bennett hath given and granted and by these presents doth give grand and confirm unto hihim the said Reubin Bennett his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred and ninety four acres (be the same more or less) being the lower part of a parcel of two hundred and sixty four acres conveyed to the said William Bennett senr by the Executors of Richard Randolph Gents of Henrico deceased situate in Pittsylvania County on the south side of Staunton River and bounded as followeth Viz. Beginning at Black walnut on the said River thence along the old patent lines S 20 D E 72 poles to a corner hickory in the head of a valley thence S 37 D E 204 poles to William Bennett

    Micajah Bennett married Ann Johnson on June 27, 1811 in Wilkes County. The same day Salley Evans married Weaver Cotton in Wilkes County.Salley Evans is listed as a widow and given one draw in the 1803 and 1806 land lottery. Micajah Bennett of Jackson County, GA left a will dated 8 Apr 1824 naming Salley Cotton as a beneficiary. Apparently, Salley is the daughter of Micajah Bennett. These records show that Micajah Bennett migrated from Wilkes Co., GA to Jackson Co., GA sometime between 1811 and 1824.

Bennett & Jeptha Bennett, the Tract ofLand whereon I now live, including the Plantation & farming utentials, two Horses, one yolk of oxen & cart, a cow & calf a peace, all my Stock of Hogs, two feather Beds & furniture, all my Household & kitchenfurnniture except two other feather Beds & furniture to be disposed ofas hereafter directed together with the services of my Negroe man Spencer, & my Negroe woman Jude, during the time of their (my Sons aforesaid) minority; with this request, & it is my will that after the expiration of the age of minority, my, the said Negroe woman Jude, shall beset free under such regulations as the Laws of the State do or may authorize, but that Spencer shall remain the property of my sons aforesaid.'

    The division of the real estate of Richard Bennett can be seen in the Pittsylvania County Land Tax List. Richard Bennett appears in the list through 1840. In 1841, Richard is absent. The land tax list shows nine properties in 1841 which the new owners received from Richard Bennett deceased. It appears that Richard Bennett died in 1840. Examination of each of these properties helps us determine the heirs of Richard Bennett.
